Mother's day. Isn't the day supposed to be mine? Aren't I supposed to get loving hugs, kisses and breakfast in bed from wide-eyed giddy children looking for my happy approval? No such luck. Tweenish attitude and groggy awakenings for this mom here! So, at least give me an easy day. One with no drama, and what I want to do.

As I dressed for church this morning, all seemed quiet in the rest of the
house. No bueno! Service begins at 9am and it is 8:30. No one is dressed, no teeth brushed, or hair. I call for little princess since she seems to take the longest to straighten out. Usually, her lion's mane hair is difficult to get through and renders us late for ALL events. Today is no different. It is exceptionally difficult. Like weeds and overgrown branches in the tropical forest. I'm contemplating cutting it off so that we can get to church on time.

Should I mind that with every strained pass of the brush, there is an audible whimper from princess? Look, if I had an hour this might have been easier. I tried to, gently. Well, as gently as my frustration would allow. The hairstylist is much more patient than I. Plus, they are paid to make princess feel warm and fuzzy about getting her hair combed. I am not.
I still have a huge learning curve when it comes to her hair care, but at least she still has a full head of it.
We have explored every hair regimen imaginable. Uploaded countless hours of 'must do' styling for mixed hair on YouTube. Suffered through mixes and homemade potions to find the just right solution to realize the one thing that would make me smile - no tears and a brush that glides through like a fish in water.

The braided pony tail is our go-to everyday style, and for good reason.
As I try and force my way through tangles, I notice that princess is in her brother's white undershirt and black leggings. No shoes.
Today I am going to choose my battles. Starting a war over dressing nicely for Mother's Day is not going to be one of them.
We'll stick with the hair for now. It's time to go.
